Whether you're working to improve your skills for realtime or passing a certification exam or just wanting to improve your writing to be an awesome reporter, briefing words and phrases is a key part of our work each day. So pick some good ones for everyday words and phrases, study and jot things down ahead of that cardiovascular surgeon depo you have coming up, and get creative -- if you have a conflict, add an asterisk, add a -Z, just make them your own!
Some suggestions on getting those new briefs into that thick skull of yours!
Write it out! Keep sticky notes while you're at a job to jot things down if you're coming up with briefs on the fly.
Practice. Practice. Practice. You won't remember the great new briefs without working on it repeatedly. Same as learning a new vocabulary word, use it three times, it's yours!
Use the Brief It function on your writer or AutoBrief (if you're on Eclipse) to build up your dictionaries. They sometimes come up with some great suggestions!
Join Facebook, Google+, and other groups for brief suggestions or if you are looking for a specific word. Other reporters are more than willing to help each other out!
Briefpedia is also a great app to keep handy just in case!
